Going into the New Year always holds with it a sense of starting fresh and setting goals and resolutions for the year to come. Throughout this process, it’s important to check in with ourselves and think about what we want to accomplish in a tangible matter. Something that I’ve gotten into the habit of practicing is planning SMART goals. SMART is an acronym in this case for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Let’s go through the process of how you might set a SMART dating goal.

Specific: I want to go on three coffee dates this month.

Measurable: We’ve already given this goal a numerical value in terms of how many dates and how long we are wanting to take.

Achievable: In this case, you have to think about what actions you are taking in order to accomplish this goal. Are you putting yourself out there? Actually, responding to people who message you?

Relevant: Is this goal something that will make you happy? Are you just doing it for other people or do you think it will further your own love life and help you to accomplish a bigger goal of perhaps meeting someone serious? All in all, why are you making this goal?

Time-Bound: Make sure your goal has an end date, at the beginning of this process when I named my goal I said 1 month. Therefore, at the end of the month, I’d start I’d check in with this goal and see if I accomplished it or not.
